“Success! Another great training event in the bag.”
We wrapped up the week last Thursday with an amazing training session on the foundations of corporate lending and finance principles. A training session tailor-made for young lawyers with 0-5 years’ experience.
We learnt so much from the facilitator, Batsho Nthoi, who is a dual-qualified banking and finance lawyer eligible to practice law both in England & Wales and Botswana. He specializes in asset-based lending, trade, commodities, and export finance, as well as general corporate lending. His expertise extends to advising on integrating trade finance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors and the digitization of trade.
A snippet of what was learnt includes the banking and lending process: from mandate to draw-down. Loan structuring, working with loan market association (LMA) style loan agreements, and key clauses and their significance, including a spotlight on permitted baskets. Lastly, the practical role of legal counsel in corporate lending.
We hope our young lawyers picked nuggets that will assist them in making informed decisions on their future and careers.
EXCITED ABOUT WHAT’S NEXT!
