The Law Society of Botswana (LSB), represented by its Chairman, Mr Lesedi T. Moahi, and the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA), represented by the Acting Deputy CEO, Mr Ofentse Disang, have formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
In a momentous occasion held at the BQA offices in Block 7, both parties expressed their delight that this long-coming milestone has finally been attained.
Its purpose is to establish a structured partnership between the two organisations to ensure that professional legal designations, certifications and standards align with the NCQF and support national legal and human capital development priorities.
The scope of collaboration covers, inter alia, joint participation in quality assurance audits, validations, and mutual recognition initiatives and joint legal education research policy development and regulatory alignment.
This agreement further marks a significant step in the parties’ collaboration, aimed at streamlining qualification processes and promoting excellence within the legal profession. It paves the way for enhanced cooperation on education standards, reciprocal recognition, and the ongoing development of legal professionals.
The organisations stressed the importance of implementation, as it is said that in Botswana, we are a people of excellent documents that are never implemented.
This statement will forever remain a yardstick against which the organisations shall measure their progress or lack thereof regarding the implementation and effectiveness monitoring of their vision regarding the MOU.
