The Committee is tasked with overseeing the welfare of pupil attorneys and pupil masters. A pupil is described, in Section 18(1) of the Legal Practitioners Act, as a person who on admission intends to practice as a legal practitioner, as such shall enter into a contract a pupillage for not less than 12 months under a pupil master or attend vocational course in the practice and procedure in the courts as provided by the Council. After the 12 months such a person now qualifies as a practicing legal practitioner.
